Singer Island Geography

Named after Palm Beach developer Paris Singer of the Singer Sewing Machine family fame, the “island” was actually once connected to Palm Beach in the south, before the Palm Beach Inlet was dug in 1917. Today, Singer Island encompasses just about 1,500 acres of tropical area, at just half a mile wide. You can walk along seven miles of pristine sandy beaches on Singer Island, eventually reaching up north to Jupiter Inlet.

Lake Worth Lagoon, which borders the Island to the west, was originally a fresh water lake until inlets were cut to provide safe havens for boats and fishing fleets, and these days, for the passenger cruise ships that grace The Port of Palm Beach. Interestingly, Singer Island happens to be the closest parcel of land in the United States to the warm blue waters of the Gulf Stream.

Living on Singer Island

With an average low temperature in the 70’s and average high temperatures reaching the 80’s, Singer Island is the ideal resort community for many “snowbird” residents who come in from colder climates during the wintertime. The total island population is over 8,000 in season and 6,000 year round. Despite the fluctuation in numbers, there are plenty of people to meet here and form lasting friendships with. It’s not uncommon to find familiar friendly faces strolling along the beaches or pedestrian paths, which stretches almost the entire length of the peninsula along the lake side of A1A.

There are two gateways found in the community at Singer Island: the Blue Heron Bridge over Lake Worth Lagoon at the south end from Riviera Beach, and A1A on the north end via PGA Blvd and Burnt Bridge, both of which take you some world-class shopping, dining, and entertainment in Palm Beach Gardens, West Palm Beach, and beyond. Besides scuba diving and snorkeling, and other forms of water recreation like canoeing and kayaking, the John D MacArthur State Park has mangrove forests and miles of hiking and biking trails for Singer Island residents to explore.
